5 Things to do in India

Ever wondered, why we rush to foreign lands for our luxurious holidays even when it means burning gigantic holes in our little pockets and spilling it over for several compensatory months together…?

It’s about time we appreciate, that, our nation offers much beyond the highly popularised label ‘land of elephants, magic and snake charmers’. Yes indeed, once you step onto this land and explore the unexplored, not a single soul can escape being mesmerised by the magnificence of our country! Be it an adventurer, a foodie, a loner, a yogic, a nature lover… there’s something for everyone. As a matter of fact, the wonderful amalgamation of geographical differences along with diverse cultures, vibrant festivities and distinguished cuisines is like, more than twenty countries rolled into a single, appetising wrap, which you can keep savouring for a lifetime and still not suffice your taste buds.

Though, I am nobody to tell you the must-dos of our bewitching land, but I am somebody who can share, what I believe are the 5 things to do in India.

So to begin with, of all the countless things you can do here…this is the first one:

     1) Royals forever - If you believe in love at first sight, welcome to the royalties of India. Our motherland is synonymous for its epitome of love, The Taj Mahal, of Agra. This definition of exotic was built in the 17th century by Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife, Mumtaz. It is also recognized as one of the seven wonders of the world.

For all the people in love and people who believe in love, this is a must-visit place, especially the night visit which is one worthy of an experience. You can never feel India, unless you see this white marbled beauty which flatters everyone who enters it.

2   2) Highway on my plate – Most of us know how NDTV Good Times brought in this show with two childhood friends Rocky Singh and Mayur Sharma, to hog all the sinful delights on the Indian highways. Their happy-go-lucky spirits, made everything look so appealing and intensely salivating, that nobody could satiate their road trips without indulging in those northern dhabaas to the southern thattukaddas. How can I not mention the explosion of gol gappas followed by happy tears streaming out of our eyes or even having the traditional Goan fenni with the seafood platter! So, for all the road trip enthusiasts and major food junkies, this is one of those delicious experiences to be sought after.

     3) Came, saw and bought – Does this ring a bell? Okay historians, I am not talking about the battles won by Julius Caesar. This is every woman’s story, who never has anything to wear. Coming back to my point, Indian clothes/fabric, traditional footwear and exquisite jewellery have been every shopaholic’s delight – ranging from a variety of rich silks, cottons, chiffons, chikankaris, bandhanis, khadis, pashminas, linens, brocades, rayons, synthetics etc, footwear from kolhapuris, mojris to jewellery like kundan, pearl, meenakari can never get outdated. It is every woman’s prized possession…believe it or not...rather, you wear it or not. Hunt it from from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk or Mumbai’s Fashion Street, Hyderabad’s Begum Bazaar or Lucknow’s Hazratganj Market, you can never have enough of any of them. So, hit these markets my fellas and glorify the Indian treasure.

For gifting amazing tokens of love and gratitude to your loved ones and also for your comfort sake, everything is just a click away, you can buy or send gift hampers to India sitting in whichever corner of the world. Tell me, who doesn't love surprises and wonderful gifts? The happiness and beaming faces when they receive them are truly priceless.

     4) Hello energetic – Detoxify is the new trend. Feel the paradise, as you relax and rejuvenate through the masseur’s magical fingers. Pamper yourself in Kerala’s ayurvedic divinity at the beach shacks, religiously get involved in clean eating rituals, visit the Osho ashram in Pune to get connected to your soul, and go back home completely energized for a fresh start.
Spill the beans, you people, we all secretly envy the ones in good shape but still do hardly anything about ourselves except going green with envy. So, three cheers to healthy living!

     5) Dance to the tunes – The folk dances of India are an absolute riot of colours, music, culture and utter fun. Being in Gujarat for a major part of my life, I would swear by garba. In fact, we also have garba workouts which burn your calories in a jiffy. Those nine days of fun and revelry with our near and dear can never be replaced. The entire state dresses up on these nine auspicious nights, cities are highly lit-up, restrictions on late comings are relaxed and everyone witnesses the ethnicity of the place. Likewise, every state has its traditional dance which signifies their culture and speciality.
